Which Cheerleading Requirements Are Most Important?
Cheerleading requirements vary from college to college and even from region to region, but there are four things that all cheerleading programs require to participate. For starters, cheerleading is a sport that requires participants to be of a certain height, weight and build. In order to be eligible for participation in a cheerleading program in a particular school, cheerleaders must meet those requirements. As the sport has become more competitive, some schools have also started looking at cheerleading competition as an integral part of their athletic program. In this sense, cheerleading is a valuable addition to the college coaches’ recruiting strategies.
Before you sign up for any college or tryout camp, it’s important to understand what the cheerleading requirements are. Each school or organization has their own cheerleading requirements, which generally depend on the age group of the participants as well as the specific sport in which they participate. The exact requirements will vary between schools and can include anything from size, age, gender and athletic background. For example, a young girl who is eleven years old will most likely not be able to participate if she’s a true all-star, meaning she has to have at least five years of experience in her cheerleading career. However, a young boy who is only a junior in high school may be eligible since he could potentially use his experience to become part of the varsity team.
If you’re a cheerleader and you see a coach recruiting for a specific team but you haven’t quite met their all-star requirements, don’t feel bad about not fulfilling them right away. Keep in mind that as time progresses, the competition will increase and it’s likely you’ll be required to step up your game in order to be a part of the team. You should always take a little time to see how far you’ve come since you started as a cheerleader so you won’t feel like you’ve gotten left behind.
