When most people think of cheerleading movies, Bring It On is probably the first to come to mind. But it’s far from the only one. In fact, there’s an entire subgenre of films about pom-pom-wielding Queen Bees who do a whole lot of bad things — and a number of them are quite creepy. Glamour recently took a look back at some of the best (and worst) Lifetime movies about cheerleading.
This film is all about the toxic culture within a high school’s cheerleading squad. Autumn Bailey, a transfer student, decides to try out for the squad with the intention of writing muckraking articles on her teammates’ behavior, especially that of their authoritarian coach. But when she unwittingly humiliates the popular girls on the squad, it fuels a jealous rage that ultimately leads to murder.
A teen girl’s desire to join her school’s cheerleading squad is met with hostility from her new classmates, particularly the leader of the mean girls. When she reveals she’s the writer of those muckraking articles, the team becomes a target. But who’s really behind the bullying? It’s hard to take your eyes off the villainous Victoria, played by a fierce Sydney Malakeh.
Two football players dreading another summer at all-male football camp get the bright idea to sign up for cheerleading camp instead. This Lifetime movie proves that, while a little less physically demanding than the gridiron, cheerleading stunts can still be very dangerous.
