A cheerleading uniform is essential for every cheerleader. It must allow full range of motion, proudly proclaim the colors of the team represented, and be comfortable enough to wear all day long. It also must be sensuous in some way, or the cheerleader will have a hard time cheering. Originally, cheerleading was considered a girl’s sport, but today, it’s a serious competitive sport and all its members need to be comfortable.
The first cheerleading uniforms were created in 1985 by a woman who went on to become the first female graduate of Northwestern University. Harter’s family owned the famous House of Harter Sporting Goods, the largest sporting goods store in the Midwest and Indiana. Her mother, Anne, marketed the cheerleading uniforms and manufactured them for the company. The company provided custom designs for high schools, so they could give each cheerleader the perfect look.
The next component of a cheerleading uniform is its material. The fabric must be strong enough to withstand the activity and not tear easily. If the cheerleading uniforms are made of polyester, they should be stain resistant. Despite this, the majority of the cheerleading apparel manufacturers make cheerleading apparel to order. However, the quality of the material used should still be considered. This is because the uniforms are designed to be durable and will be worn for many hours.
