Cheerleading Shirts

A cheerleading shirt is a shirt worn by female members of a cheerleading squad. Most high schools use cropped uniform tops, which are very revealing. A sleeveless shell top is worn over a bra. The school’s logo is usually placed in the center of the shirt, and the fabric ends below the bra-line. A cropped uniform top is rarely worn by high school squads, however, due to a recent rule introduced by the National Federation of State High Schools Associations.

The top of a cheerleading shirt is waist-length, and most school squads wear them during competition. It should cover the entire upper body (including shoulders), as well as the arms (if the shirt is sleeveless), and the lower back area. The NFSHSA uniform rules do not prohibit revealing the lower back, but many teams choose to wear crop-top or sleeveless tops.

A bodysuit, or leotard-like undergarment, is typically worn under a cheerleading shirt. Bodysuits are short-sleeved shirts that snap at the bottom. Some squads wear bodysuits only during competitions, while others opt for a more modest crop-top style. A waist-length shell can be paired with several different types of bodyliners. If the top is sleeveless, the only option for exposing the midriff is to buy a cropped stomach-showing bodyliner. Full coverage bodyliners cover the entire midriff.
