Cheerleading anime focus on recruiting, practicing, and performing cheer events in addition to following the day-to-day lives of members. These titles tackle stereotypes that suggest men’s cheerleading is a shameful joke or a sausage fest, as well as the physical challenges and self-doubts that come with being part of an all-male competitive cheer squad.
Judo is Haruki Bandou’s life, his family expects him to continue the family tradition, but an injured shoulder makes him reconsider his options. His childhood friend Kazuma entices him with an invitation to form a men’s cheer team, and the resulting group is a motley crew: argumentative Mizoguchi, voracious Ton, frivolous Kansai boys Gen and Ichiro, and Sho, who has previous cheer experience. Kohane Hatoya has always been peppy, but her new school doesn’t have a cheerleading club. Determined to pursue her dream, she recruits enough people to upgrade their status to a group club and sets her sights on her classmate Hizume Arima.
Hizume is a former cheerleader who was kicked out of her previous squad due to her exceptional skills. She’s hesitant to join the group, but she soon finds herself enjoying herself and finds herself getting closer to her classmates. The girls also find themselves working with their homeroom teacher, who is a fan of their routines. However, when the group is requested to cheer at a soccer match that includes Uki’s younger brother Akane, who doesn’t have the best impression of cheerleaders, things begin to heat up.
