A Cheerleading Face Mask For Cheerleaders

As the COVID-19 scare continues to subside and spectators return to their seats, watching a basketball game feels pretty normal again. And that’s especially true for fans who aren’t wearing masks. The Mike Krzyzewskis and Kim Mulkeys of the world can root for their teams without a fabric covering their mouths, which means they can even cheer as loud as ever.

But for the members of a local high school cheer squad, being able to get into the spirit of a game is more than just about showing their school spirit. For the girls on this team, it’s about being able to perform their cheer routines with flexibility.

The present invention relates to a protective mask for cheerleaders which is designed to be worn proximate the face of the wearer and substantially cover it. The mask is adapted for use in the sport of cheerleading, but it is not limited to this application and can be used for other physical sports.

The protective mask includes a facial covering sheet which is contoured to substantially match the shape of a face and be mounted on the head of a cheerleader, as shown in FIG. 1. The mask also comprises straps 12, 14 and 16 which are adapted to be passed through slots S, S’, S” located on opposed side edges of the facial covering sheet. The straps are adapted to be fastened proximate the head of the cheerleader with strap 12 being attached approximately at eye level and straps 14 and 16 being anchored about the cheek area of the head of the cheerleader.
